Redfield Community

LILI is based in the stable block of Redfield Community, a Victorian mansion in 18 acres just outside Winslow, Buckinghamshire. Founded in 1978, Redfield is a registered housing co-op with on average around 20 members. We make decisions and own the land and buildings collectively. The environment is a high priority for the community - we have organic gardens and orchards; free-range animals; solar hot water; compost toilets; straw-bale buildings; we recycle and compost our waste; plant trees; and heat our rooms with wood-burning stoves. Perhaps more importantly though, we share resources - vehicles, workshops, laundry, and one kitchen (we eat evening meals together and take turns to cook). Now, with the support of the community, LILI is promoting the various environmentally-friendly practices and facilities that exist here. There is accommodation for up to 25 in our converted stable block, with wood-burner, compost toilets, solar-heated showers, and beds made from timber grown on the property.
