general info
Nothing compares to the grace and beauty of a tipi. It’s conical shape allows it to withstand very high winds. Its simplicity belies its ability to create the perfect environment at any time of year; well ventilated and cool in summer and warmed by the fire in winter. After spending time in a tipi you will be hard pressed to find another form of shelter to compare with it.

tipi sizes
size is the distance on the ground from the front to the back (tipis are oval-shaped), and also roughly the distance from the ground to the top of the canvas.

The 5m, 5.5m, 6m, and 7m are by far the most popular sizes. Please note that the above sleeping and seating figures are based on comfort rather than maximum amounts. We also make a very popular 2m childrens tipi.

canvas
Our 300g(10.5oz) and 360g(13oz) canvas is made of 100% natural cotton. The 420g(15oz) canvas is a 50% cotton 50% polyester mixed weave. All of our canvas is water and rot resistant, and flame retardant canvas is available at an additional cost. Our covers are very durable and we are happy to advise as to which is best for your needs.

lining
We strongly recommend the use of a lining as this makes the tipi a comfortable place to be. It prevents drafts and stops rain dripping from the poles. It creates an insulating barrier and helps to draw smoke from the fire upward and out of the smoke flaps.

poles
If you can make your own tipi poles then you will appreciate your tipi all the more for the work involved. We recommend spruce as an ideal pole but any straight softwood will do. Use a draw-knife to shave off the bark and smooth the pole. If you can’t make your own we’ll be happy to provide them for you. Upon request, for very large tipis, we can also provide you with divided tipi poles. These are essentially cut in half at an angle and then reconnected with the aid of wooden pins. These are virtually invisible and whilst they will never be as strong as standard tipi poles they do make transportation an awful lot easier.

colours
Our canvas comes as standard in a natural off white colour. We can also make your tipi in the colour(s) of your choice but please note coloured canvas is only available in 300g (10.5oz).

ozan
The ozan is really for serious tipi dwellers only. It acts as a ceiling/partial ceiling extending from the rear of the tipi. In severe weather it can be used to stop any raindrops reaching the living area and as long as a gap is left for the smoke to escape it can also help to further insulate the living space.

rain hat
Stops rain from entering the tipi. It consists of a large square of canvas with a pocket in one corner, and loops to attach ropes to. It is fixed to the rain hat pole in one corner, and pegged down on the other 3 corners. You have to cut the poles down so that they are only sticking out c. 50cm over the top of the canvas; it takes away some of the beauty, but it stops you getting wet.

ordering info
We hold some tipis in stock so please contact us to check if we have what you want. However, most of our tents are made to order. Orders are taken on a first come first served basis and confirmed upon receipt of payment. Upon clearance of payment we will send you a receipt and confirm the estimated delivery time.
Please take the time to ensure that what you order is what you really want. There are so many variables with all of our tipis and we are happy to discuss them with you. Once an order is confirmed it cannot be cancelled and deposits are non-refundable. If in any doubt please contact us.

delivery info
Whilst we hold many of the more popular tents in stock, most of of our tents are handmade to order and therefore take time to make. We endeavour to deliver your tent within 30 days of receipt of payment. We will deliver your tent ourselves or by courier depending on the product. If it fits on a pallet it will be around £50-£60 within the UK. Anything under 6m in length can generally come by courier. More fragile items or items with many component parts (after several bad experiences with couriers) we prefer to deliver ourselves. The cost of this will vary according to location and goods carried.
Should you wish to collect your tent yourselves we would be delighted. So much so, that we would give you a nice cuppa and a tour (should you so desire) of our community. We are centrally located 9 miles west of Milton Keynes and easily accessible from the M1 and M40. Directions are here.
After purchasing your tipi, contact us to talk about delivery options.
