one-day course

how to build a rocket stove

venue: the Middlewood Trust, Lancashire

This course covers the building and using of wood-burning rocket stoves. Course tutor Rod lives at Middlewood, and has built many of these stoves from a variety of materials for space heating, water heating and cooking. These highly-efficient stoves are very versatile and easy to make.

A rocket stove is first and foremost an efficient cooking stove, developed to save fuel wood. They can be used for cooking, mass heating and heating water, and are in widespread use throughout the world. Other benefits are that they can be made from local / recycled materials, and they reduce ill-health from smoke.

This will be a practical course - making different types of rocket stoves and then cooking on them. We will also discuss the theory behind how they work, and see a number of different examples around Middlewood.

Please bring thick gloves and be prepared to get your hands dirty. Lunch will be provided by you cooking it! If you have any clean, empty 5-gallon drums or something similar, please bring them along.
