residential weekend course

green woodworking / making a shave horse

venue: the Middlewood Trust, Lancashire

A good introduction to green woodworking and many of the processes and tools used, plus you get to take home your own shave horse for using on your own projects at home.

A shave horse is an indispensible tool for many green woodworking projects and the making of one will introduce you to lots of different techniques.

Learn to:

  • select wood for projects
  • split green wood with axes and wedges
  • use a side axe to rough out shapes
  • use a drawknife to shape split wood
  • make mortice and tenon joints
  • use a shave horse and get ideas for further projects

These shave horses will ‘flat pack’ to allow for transportation

Course runs from 10am to 5pm Saturday and Sunday, and you can arrive Friday evening if you like. Bring work clothes and stout footwear. Lunch will be provided each day. Bring your own food for evening meal and breakfast; cooking facilities and cutlery/crockery are available in our bunkhouse. Bunk house, yurt accommodation, plus camping available. Bring a sleeping bag.
