one-day course

rush weaving

venue: Hackney City Farm, London

This workshop is run by Ruth Salter, and is suitable for all levels of experience.

Participants will learn how to make a small basket in rush. The workshop may be useful to learn or brush up on basic techniques, but could also be used to experiment and make something completely different. You will learn various weaving techniques through demonstrations, handouts, looking at samples, books and individual guidance from your tutor. You should be able to complete an item and to continue making a small item, for example a table mat (rush) or a small basket (rush and willow), at home.

All you need to bring with you is a pen and/or pencil, pad, general-purpose scissors, ruler/tape measure, string, and if you can an awl or a bodkin.
Don't worry if you don't have these, or don't even know what they are - there will be tools available at the workshop.
