events

Local authorities - LILI would like a stand at your public event - Environment Day, Green Fair, Family Fun Day etc.
We will come along with 2 staff members to answer questions from the public, and with a whole range of interesting stuff. Our marquee is very popular – our information is accessible and easy to understand, and our staff are friendly and down-to-earth.
We can help people by providing practical advice about alternative technologies, but we can also reach out to people who are not so motivated or informed, to explain environmental problems and what they can do to help. We are possibly unique in the range of ways we can help local authorities in their environmental education and awareness-raising.

marquee
LILI’s marquee has a 6-metre frontage and is 4 metres deep, and it allows the public to browse our stand in all weathers. We can erect or dismantle it in less than 30 minutes. Information boards are arranged around the walls, and there are chairs, and a table for fliers, manuals, note-taking etc.

information boards
Each of our boards is stained green, with 10 laminated sheets – a title sheet; four diagrams / photos; and four text sheets – introduction; environmental benefits, ‘what can I do?’ and further resources. The boards are attractive and easy to understand, drawing people into the marquee, where they can read more, ask questions, and take down phone numbers.
The boards cover the following topics:

  • low-impact living
  • beekeeping
  • biodiesel
  • communities
  • compost toilets
  • eco-paints
  • keeping poultry
  • lime
  • natural cleaners
  • organic gardening
  • rainwater harvesting
  • rammed earth building
  • solar hot water
  • solar electricity
  • straw-bale building
  • veg oil motoring
  • wind generators
  • wood stoves

demonstration equipment
We will bring along a demo solar hot water panel, which can show just how much the sun can heat your water in this country. It really works – even on overcast days (we've been known to make coffee with it on sunny days!). The panel has toughened glass, aluminium frame and collector fins with a selective surface. We can advise people on different types of system, costs involved, and how to obtain government grants.
We will also bring a solar pv panel so that people can see the difference - plus some biodiesel, lime putty, eco-paints, a straw-bale 'persuader', and even a jar of compost from a compost loo (people think it's garden centre compost).

books & manuals
We also bring along a range of books and manuals on practical environmental topics. The manuals contain precise definitions; details of environmental benefits; what people can (and can’t) do, including plans, diagrams and costings; plus further resources.

fliers and factsheets
We provide fliers promoting LILI’s other activities, for people who would like to take the next step, and attend a course, or arrange an installation or consultancy.

costs
Our basic fee for attending a one-day event is £250 (plus VAT).

we're really inspired by the amount of interest we receive at events; here we are at Saffron Walden's Green Fair, where our marquee was full all day
