one-day course

basketmaking

venue: Ecclesall Woods Sawmill, Sheffield

Basketmaking is one of the oldest of all crafts. It pre-dates pottery and cloth weaving, and led to the invention of both.

Spend a day with Ray Lister, of Creative Country Crafts, who has been making and teaching about English baskets for over 20 years, using colourful, locally-grown organic willow.

Each student will craft his or her own frame basket. This style of basket uses the oldest of techniques, and is a very achievable basket, even with no previous experience necessary. This type of basket also lends itself well to the use of wild / garden / hedgerow materials.

Join us in a woodland shelter, sit by a wood stove and weave your basket.

Please bring outdoor clothes and boots, and a packed lunch. Tea and coffee provided.
