LILI: how to build a wind pump LILI: how to build a wind pump
Jim Barr

Good for developed or developing countries, the wind pump described in this book can pump rainwater, greywater, river, pond or well water for irrigation, aerate a fish pond, run a water feature or even be a bird scarer. This system does not generate electricity. The turbine is 700mm diameter, and the turbine head plus rotor weighs less than 4kg. In a light-to-moderate wind, it should pump 1000 litres per day, with a head of 2-3 metres. If you have good engineering skills and equipment, you can fabricate nearly all of the system yourself; if you get all the parts manufactured, it's not much more complicated than DIY flatpack furniture.

windpumps: a guide for development workers windpumps: a guide for development workers
Roy Barlow, Peter Fraenkel, et al

This book systematically looks at every aspect of the implementation of a wind-powered water-pumping system. Although intended for development workers as indicated by the title, the book is still very useful and covers information both on the technology and economics of this renewable energy resource. 144pp

the fundamentals of wind-driven water pumpers the fundamentals of wind-driven water pumpers
J.A.C. Kentfield

This hardback monograph offers a comprehensive reference work for engineers, researchers and students involved in the design, testing and improvement of wind-driven water pumps. By providing a thorough treatment of the factors which affect the success of pump performance, combined with the fundamentals of machine design, this book distinguishes itself from a simple design manual, and therefore allows the reader to determine the most efficient wind-pump configuration based on their specific needs and resources. The latest international developments in wind-driven water pumping technologies, including a survey of the advantages and disadvantages of the alternative configurations to the more "standard" designs are discussed. In a field where technical information is limited, The Fundamentals of Wind-Driven Water Pumpers will serve as a valuable resource for the wind-engineering community. 256pp
